The holidays are supposed to be a time of joy, connection, and celebration. But what happens when the traditions you’ve always followed leave you feeling exhausted, resentful, or financially stressed?
In this week’s episode 376 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast, I’m sharing three boundaries that can help you make room for more joy during the holidays. From hosting family gatherings to visiting multiple households and exchanging gifts, we’ll explore how to stop doing things out of obligation and start making choices that actually work for you.
Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:
- Why just because you’ve always done something doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it, and how to recognize when holiday traditions no longer work for you.
- How to set boundaries around hosting, cooking, and overnight guests without taking responsibility for everyone else’s plans or reactions.
- Why you don’t have to spend your precious time off going from house to house, and how to prioritize the people and activities that genuinely restore you.
- How to rethink holiday gift exchanges, including setting spending limits, changing who you buy gifts for, and having honest conversations about expectations.
- The importance of building Internal Safety by allowing other people to feel disappointed while you stand by the decisions that support your well-being.
You don’t have to sacrifice your peace, time, and energy to make the holidays enjoyable for everyone else. You get to decide which traditions you want to keep, which obligations you’re ready to release, and what you want to make room for in your own life.
Start by asking yourself: What am I trying to make room for by setting this boundary? Maybe it’s more rest, meaningful time with fewer people, less financial stress, or simply enough energy to enjoy the people you’re with. You don’t have to change everything at once. One conversation, one boundary, or one intentional choice can be enough to begin.
Are you ready to make room for a holiday season that works for you, too?
